SEAD Announces Competition to Identify World’s Most Energy Efficient Motors

SEAD Global Efficiency MedalSEAD launched a Global Efficiency Medal competition to identify the most energy efficient electric motors around the world.

Electric motor-driven systems account for over 40% of world electricity consumption. They are by far the single largest energy-using product and are responsible for more than 6,000 megatons of CO2 emissions annually — equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 1 billion cars.

By recognizing and promoting the world’s most energy efficient electric motors, the SEAD Global Efficiency Medal competition will help buyers make informed purchasing decisions and spur greater innovation among manufacturers.

The electric motors competition is the third in this global awards program. The first Global Efficiency Medals were awarded to the world’s most energy efficient flat-screen televisions, and the second competition will identify the most efficient computer monitors.
