CLASP Welcomes S. Sundararmoorthy and Michael Spiak

CLASP is pleased to announce two new hires. S. Sundararmoorthy and Michael Spiak have joined our team in the capacities of Program Associate for CLASP’s India Program and Communications & Development Associate in CLASP’s DC office, respectively.

S. Sundararmoothy brings more than three years of experience in the areas of energy efficiency and policy analysis. He started his career in the field of Energy Auditing at AMSET Energy Systems & Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Chennai, where he coordinated and performed Energy Audits. He joined the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) as a Project Engineer in 2013, where he conducted technical analysis and economic feasibility studies of various appliances for the purpose of implementing the star rating system under BEE’s appliance standards and labeling program.

As Program Associate, Sundar serves as a technical and program resource for the CLASP India program team and for BEE. He provides day-to-day support for BEE's activities under the labeling program and assists CLASP’s India program in the design and execution of current and planned program activities. Sundar has a Master’s degree in Energy Conservation & Management from Anna University, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, and is a certified Energy Auditor under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, from the Government of India.

Michael Spiak comes to CLASP with four years of experience in the non-profit sector. He previously managed programs and daily operations for OurEnergyPolicy.org, a good-governance non-profit that connects federal policymakers and reporters to energy experts and online resources. He has helped launch several startups in the Washington, DC area, including the clean technology incubator Potential Energy DC. Previously, he worked in Zambia for Grassroot Soccer, a non-profit that educates and empowers African youth and communities to fight the spread of HIV.

As Communications & Development Associate, Michael is helping grow CLASP’s brand, including communicating to broader audiences and supporting CLASP’s Communications Director, Executive Director, and other members of the Senior Management Team on all aspects of fundraising, business development, and donor management activities. Michael graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Middlebury College in Vermont, where he studied psychology and philosophy and played on the varsity soccer team.
