CLASP Welcomes Bishal Thapa as India Director

CLASP is pleased to announce that Bishal Thapa will join us this month to lead our India program.

Headshot of Bishal ThapaCLASP is pleased to announce that Bishal Thapa will join us this month to lead our India program. Bishal brings to CLASP more than two decades of global energy experience spanning policy design and implementation, project management, and technology financing.

Working from CLASP’s offices in New Delhi, Bishal will lead engagement within India and across the region to advance appliance efficiency policy and expand partnerships with governments, businesses, and civil society.

“We are thrilled that Bishal is joining the CLASP family to contribute his unique enthusiasm and vision across CLASP’s climate and energy access portfolios,” said CLASP CEO Christine Egan. “Our long-standing India program is a cornerstone of CLASP’s work around the world, and with Bishal’s leadership, we look forward to continued successes with our many partners in the region.”

Most recently, Bishal supported Energy Efficiency Services Limited, India on the super energy-efficient air conditioner program and helped operationalize its national energy efficiency chiller program. Over the last few years, he has supported the Government of Nepal to prepare and adopt a national energy efficiency strategy. He also brings experience in the design, implementation and financing of distributed energy systems, having worked extensively with on- and off-grid solar solutions.

Bishal has worked with a wide range of public and private sector clients across the entire energy supply chain, including in energy markets, price forecasting, energy efficiency, distributed energy, policy, and regulatory reform.

Outside of work Bishal is an avid writer, frequently focusing on political and social issues. He holds a Master’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland and an undergraduate degree in economics, mathematics and political science from Monmouth College.
