Quality Matters

Lighting Global Quality assurance tested a group of top-selling non-quality verified solar products in five domestic markets across Africa and South Asia. All 17 evaluated products failed to meet the Lighting Global Quality Standards for pico-PV products.

On 28-29 May 2018, the Efficiency for Access Coalition hosted a “Global Market Development Roundtable” in Amsterdam to discuss opportunities to advance markets for off- and weak-grid refrigeration. This setting provided an opportunity to engage a variety industry leaders including product designers, manufacturers of both on- and off-grid appliances, distributors, PAYGO solar home system providers, and other development and technology specialists.

Negligible data currently exists regarding off- and weak-grid refrigerator cost and performance. To help fill this gap and accelerate this market – with support from UK DFID’s Ideas to Impact Initiative – CLASP procured and tested commercially available refrigerators in 2016 to establish a performance baseline.
