Introducing Mepsy: The Appliance & Equipment Climate Impact Calculator

Mepsy is CLASP’s digital tool to model the impacts of energy and carbon reduction policies. Setting policies and achieving their benefits requires accurate, actionable data. Mepsy’s dynamic, user-friendly interface guides researchers and policymakers in identifying efficiency policy opportunities and analyzing their energy and carbon impacts. Pre-loaded with data from 162 countries, it supports analysis and prioritization for the most energy-intensive appliances and equipment— space heaters, air conditioners, refrigerators, fans, motors, and televisions—with more technologies available soon.

Mepsy allows users to:

  • Choose a country or region, product, and expected effective date to calculate policy benefits through 2030
  • Use pre-loaded data from CLASP research and other sources, or enter your own data
  • Download calculation results as a CSV file for further use

Read more or visit Mepsy.

Research Library

Our research library contains over 400 publications that span topics in climate and clean energy access, such as agriculture, water, and compliance and quality assurance.

A new, subtractive filter allows visitors to refine their search through the archive across key topics, product group, and region. We’ve also added a library-specific search function, so you can find the research you need quickly.

See our latest research publication developed under the Efficiency for Access Coalition, the 2021 Data Trends Report, which presents product performance, energy efficiency, and pricing trends for off-grid appropriate televisions, fans, refrigerators, solar water pumps and early market insights for electric pressure cookers.

News, Insights & Impact Stories

Our redesigned news section shares the latest from our work around the world and is a home for CLASP team members to share insights from the field. A recent piece from India Program Manager Neha Dhingra provides clues as to how the COVID-19 pandemic could drive long-term changes in India’s electricity demand, with implications for efficiency policy.

Also check out a new collection on the CLASP website showcasing real-word impact stories from our work. Our most recent impact story, Security and Comfort in a Warming World, explores how a solar-powered fan, sold through a Global LEAP Awards financing program, is benefiting a family in Bangladesh.

Tools

CLASP’s suite of tools surface essential data and information on appliance energy performance and quality. The collection currently features Mepsy and connects to the VeraSol Product Database, where users can identify and compare hundreds of high-quality off-grid solar solutions.

The new CLASP Policy Resource Center (CPRC), formerly the Policy Database, will debut in the coming months. The CPRC will be a hub for information on water, energy and quality standards for appliances and equipment, regularly updated with comprehensive resources that make it easy to view, compare, and download policy information data across 14 different product groups.
