Lighting
CLASP recently updated Mepsy with the ‘African Lighting Amendment Scenario,’ demonstrating the national-level cost and energy savings if the world ends the manufacture, export and import of fluorescents by 2025. The scenario aligns with the proposed lighting amendment submitted by the African Region to the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the guidance of the Ministry of Power, observed National Conservation Week from December 08 – 14, 2021. India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency recently adopted voluntary energy efficiency policies for air compressors and ultra-high-definition televisions. This initiative aims to reduce the energy consumption and climate impacts attributed to such products, and increase savings for consumers via electricity bills.
CLASP is managing the ongoing Efficiency for Access consumer awareness campaign through February 2022. The campaign aims to catalyze the adoption of solar water pumping through awareness creation and linkage with market players.

To reduce the burden on South Africa's national grid and reduce consumers’ electricity bills, CLASP is supporting the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) to develop efficiency policies for televisions. These policies will further help reduce CO₂ emissions from the country.

The CLASP-coordinated Clean Lighting Coalition brings together 37 LED companies across 17 countries to demonstrate market readiness for a global transition to clean, energy-efficient LED lighting.
CLASP, which leads the VeraSol quality assurance initiative, commissioned a study to evaluate consumers’ experiences with off-grid solar products in Kenya. This study was the first of its kind and sought to complement existing data gathered through laboratory testing by focusing on how consumers interact with quality-verified and non-quality verified products.
